Philadelphia’s food scene is so much more than cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. The city and surrounding suburbs have an eclectic mix of culinary cuisines ranging from vegan fare to Italian BYOBs, and everything in between. Not only are the restaurants a tourist attraction in and of itself, but the world-class craft breweries and distilleries draw crowds by the thousands to test their unique concoctions. Interior Inspiration From One of Philly’s Coolest Hotels
Though one of the country’s oldest cities, Philly has become a mecca for modern design. In fact, it was Dwell Magazine that led me to this latest design inspiration — Lokal Fishtown. Lokal is a boutique hotel chain offering innovative experiences and uncommon interiors. For their new Fishtown location, Lokal enlisted design firm True Hand Society to transform 6 apartment-style rooms (aptly named “Jawns”) into modern getaways with a distinctly Philly vibe.

This amazing past is displayed prominently throughout her home. Religious figures from Mexico share space with a print gifted by Andy Warhol himself. Benches from Thailand sit beneath artwork by David Bowie and Keith Haring. If these walls could talk, they’d tell a story of fashion icon and advocate living her best life.

A Modern Apartment with a Mix of African Accents
As someone who collects African-inspired art and textiles, I find this latest home tour particularly inspiring. Designer Sophie Ashby successfully blends modern and traditional with accents of Afro-themed prints, sculpture, and art. The balance is just right. Take the living room for example. An oversized print by Nigerian photographer Lakin Ogunbanwo hangs prominently atop a modern bookcase. Its well-edited shelves styled with accessories of all styles. I’ll undoubtedly incorporate some of Sophie’s tricks in my own home.
